Fouth blog----To be positive

Because of different cultures, it is easy to find that Chinese oversea students have a big problem of communicating with American students. Especially when Chinese students meet language problems, talking to American students seems to be a luxury product that they can not afford. Whenever these Chinese students start to speak English, they always worry about whether they will make a mistake or not during the process of communicating. In general, a result will be seen that a Chinese student  uses lots of time to hang out with other Chinese students instead of trying to get themselves involved in the communication with American students. Chinese are more likely to speak mother-tongue in America. It is not useful for them to improve their English-speaking, and Chinese students should be positive to join in the communication with American students.
Like Liu's experiences, when i started to study in America, i was most likely to talk with Chinese friends, not my American friends. Because it is hard to find the same activity or event that American friends and I both are interested in. Even when I met with them, i even didn't  not know what topic will be appropriate for us to talk about.  A few month later, I began to be familiar with American sports and TV program. Sometimes I tried to force myself to be interested in what American people were fond of.  Half a year later, looking for a topic to talk with American friends was no longer a hard thing for me. In my opinion,  Chinese students should be positive to talk with American students. It is useful for us to adapt to the new life in America.

Non-verbal Communication

Language is an important tool that people use it to communicate with other people everyday. However, is the verbal communication the only way to transmit the meaning? Through reading the "non-verbal communication", it is obvious that non-verbal communication is more useful than verbal communication for knowing the meaning transmitted from other people. Non-verbal communication have different categories: eye-contact, gestures, facial expression and so on. Because of the different culture in different countries,  the same act or gestures may have different meanings. For instance, between China and America, the same way to communicate with other people can transmit different meanings.
Body language is a common way to transmit the meanings without saying a word.  The same body language may have different meanings between China and other countries. Such as, stamping one's foot in China means frustration, however in America, the act means impatience. Gestures is also a non-verbal communication way to interact with other people.  In China, shaking hand is not used between two different generations. It can be considered a impolite act.. It is always can be used  between friends and businessmen. However, in singaporeans, people are more open-minded and they will shake hands when they meet at the first time.

The first impression plays jokes

Option 3: Have you ever formed a first impression of someone that eventually proved to be completely wrong? Do you know of an occasion when someone formed an impression of you that was completely wrong?

After reading the article " The first four minutes", I strongly agree with the author of saying that whether two people can become friends or not at least depend on the first four minutes of the first meet. However, the first impression often leads people to an inverse way of judging a person.
Five years has passed, it is extremely hard to forget a person that exists in my memory all along. Because of him, i never use the first impression as the only evidence to judge a stranger. When I was in the middle school, i met a person which sit in front of me. He rarely went to the classes, whereas to my surprised, he always got a great score in the test. Whenever i talked to him, he always answered with few words. In short, the first impression of him make me to hate him. I always played some jokes on him in order to make him embarrassed.
Nevertheless, one day, the latest impression marked an about-face from his first one. On my way to the school, I accidentally saw him helping an old person to do the housework. That's the reason why he always was absent. I was so ashamed of my past behavior. Therefore, I always help him to take care of that old person, and he became one of my best friends.
In general, people always use the first impression to judge a person. However, the first impression sometimes plays jokes on people. The first impression can be regarded as one standard, but not a mere one.

The Language Is Power

Through reading the "Mother Tongue", indubitably, language plays an important role in Amy Tan's life. There is a famous proverb, which is called" the knowledge is power" known by most people. In my opinion, the  language is also a kind of power that can affect people's life. A language is a brief expression of the culture. As time passes, a number of old words are out of fashion and some new words appear and become the new language that we use today. I always use some words to communicate with my peers, but i will not use them to talk to my parents. For example, the Chinese word "Lei" means something is amazing and makes people surprised. My parents will not understand them if i talk to them by using this word. They most likely to use some Chinese words, which exist in the past, but probably we never use these words again.
How to use language in a proper way? In my opinion, the most appropriate way to use language is using the right words in the right situation. In general, the situation can be divided into two categories: formal and informal. For example, if it is a formal situation, I always use formal language, such as, i have to call other people's full name and call other people " sir or miss". I will not use " hey, dude or guys. During the process of learning English, I have ever used informal words in the formal situation. When I ask questions to the professor, i use the word" sucks" not " terrible" , and the professor seems very angry. From that day, I know it is important to use language in a proper way. The words that i should use depend on the situation.

Hey,guys,how is everything going

Hello, everyone, I am Shao Qiushi. Happy to see lots of friends in this class. You can call me Eric at any time. I am from China, which owns the largest population all over the world. I am the freshman of the University of Delaware. I have already been living here for one and a half years. I like playing soccer and table-tennis. Therefore,  an unofficial competitive match generally will start in the gym after the class. My major is Finance. The reason why i choose Finance as my major is I prefer to use money as  a tool to earn more money rather than put the same amount of money in my bank account. Although American economy is sinking into a recession,  I believe that in less than five years, current situation will change. During the time of studying in the university, doing my best to get enough knowledge obviously become the major goal that I have to reach.
Other than studying hard, joining in organizing some school activities has become another part of my life in America. One month ago, I was selected as  the new president of China Club of Delaware. As mentioned in our website, the club's mission is to share and to promote the understanding of Chinese culture, language, and economics while providing a structured platform for all volitional Delawareans to participate and contribute. If anyone wants to know the Chinese culture and meets some friends in Newark. I think this club will provide you a great chance. If you want to join in this club, please leave me a message.  During the process of working with other members in the club, I can practice my managing abilities and meet numerous friends who are smart and energetic.
